They moved into this most lovely two-story 100 year-old house, and every day he noticed little nicks and scrapes and dents in the walls and the floors and the doors that he hadn’t noticed the day before. A glass of red wine in hand, standing

in the kitchen one night, he said, “This house is banged up.” She did not answer, “The house has been well loved.” She didn’t answer, “The house has been lived in well,” or even, “The house has been well lived in.” Instead, she said, “The house has been well lived.” He liked that.
