The camellia garden suffered terribly in the tornado of December, 1997. The oldest camellias are 50 years old. They might have a century left.

What happens in the grove is an inverse mimesis–it determines the city outside it.

    I love your long sentence “But certain camellias will stand five times your height…,”a great long all-embracing sentence like one of Gertrude Stein’s. A fine observation on the rewards of patience, with plants, with our city, and with ourselves.
